Cross Processing Action Imitates Historic Cross Processing Results

Cross processing (sometimes abbreviated to Xpro) is the deliberate processing of photographic film in a chemical solution intended for a different type of film. Prior to Photoshop in the early days of photography, many different photographers pioneered the process by mistake in the days of C-22 and E-4.

Unnatural colors and high contrast characterize color cross processed photographs.  Many factors determine the outcome of cross processing. As a result, cross processed photos differ from case to case. Variables such as the make and type of the film used, the amount of light exposed onto the film, and the chemical used to develop can all create different looks.

In conclusion, digital filters such as our free cross processing Photoshop action produce similar effects without the chemical mess.
